Privacy information

Effective October 24, 2026.

Purpose and information used

NAS Encrypted Backup is operated privately by its owner to protect the owner's personal and business files. It uses Google authorization credentials to transfer an encrypted backup repository to the owner's Google Drive. It reads account identity and storage quota to confirm the destination and available capacity.

Limited Google Drive access

The connection uses the drive.file scope to create, read, and maintain its backup files, and files explicitly selected through the connection. It does not request Gmail, contacts, calendar, or general access to all Drive files.

Encryption and storage

Restic encrypts file contents and backup metadata, including original filenames, on the NAS before transfer. Google Drive stores the resulting encrypted repository. The owner controls the recovery password, which is needed to decrypt a restored backup. Authorization credentials are stored privately on the NAS.

Use and sharing

Google user data is used only to operate and restore these private backups. It is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models. Backup data is not shared publicly through this utility. Google processes stored encrypted data under its applicable service terms and privacy policies.

Retention and owner control

Backup snapshots remain until the owner removes them or enables a retention policy. The owner can revoke the connection through Google Account permissions and can delete the backup repository from Google Drive. Revoking access alone does not delete existing backup files.
